09/25/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Carle appeared to suffer a head injury on an ugly hit by Detroit's Tomas Kopecky in the first period of Montreal's 3-2 shootout preseason victory over Detroit.
About 5 1/2 minutes into the contest Carle took a hit from Kopecky after making a pass near the blue line. Carle went down immediately and lay sprawled face down and motionless on the ice.
The 20-year-old Carle was taken from the ice on a stretcher after slipping in and out of consciousness during a more than 15-minute delay. He was taken to Detroit Medical Center for further examination.
The Red Wings also had a player go to the hospital. Nicklas Lidstrom was struck by a puck above the right eye that required stitches.
