11/30/2008 - Glendale, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Joe Pavelski scored twice and the San Jose Sharks rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes in a Pacific Division battle.
Rob Blake also scored and Milan Michalek tallied two assists for the Sharks, who matched their longest winning streak of the season with their seventh consecutive victory. San Jose also rattled off seven in a row from October 25 to November 8 and leads the NHL with 41 points.
Evgeni Nabokov stopped 18-of-20 shots to get the win.
The Sharks improved to 8-3-0 as the visiting team this season and wrapped up a brief two-game road trip. San Jose begins a four-game homestand Tuesday when the Toronto Maple Leafs come in for a visit.
"They (Phoenix) got up to that two-goal lead and there really wasn't any panic on the bench," Pavelski said. "We we had to pick our game up and get after them a little bit more."
Derek Morris and Kyle Turris both scored and Shane Doan logged a pair of helpers for the Coyotes, who had won two straight following a season-high six- game losing streak.
Ilya Bryzgalov allowed the first two shots he faced to get by him and was replaced by Mikael Tellqvist, who gave up the game-winner in making 20 saves and was saddled with the loss.
"It's frustrating because I thought we played really well, especially early in the game," Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky said. "We didn't get key goals when we needed them and that was the difference in the hockey game."
Phoenix is now 1-1 on its four-game homestand and will also welcome Los Angeles and Toronto before the next time it heads out on the road.
Pavelski's game-winner came off a deflection in front on a Brad Lukowich shot with a little over 8 1/2 minutes left in the third and Nabokov made it stand up with four saves in the final period, including two dandies in the final minute.
Nabokov laid out to stop Kevin Porter's backhand attempt just inside 30 seconds left and Michalek was whistled for tripping with 22.1 seconds left following a scrum in front -- but Phoenix couldn't convert up two men after pulling the goaltender.
"We were good when we had to be, especially at the end," Pavelski added.
Morris got things started with a slap shot from the high slot that found its way through traffic and into the net just 28 seconds in, and Turris' rebound from the right side on the power play made it a 2-0 game at 3:13.
Pavelski cut the lead to one a minute later with his ninth of the season off a rebound in close, and Blake's one-timer from the right circle evened the score 1:11 later.
It was the first two shots of the game for San Jose and Bryzgalov was given the early hook having not made a single save.
After the four-goal flurry in the first, the teams went scoreless in the middle stanza with Phoenix's new netminder, Tellqvist, making four saves and Nabokov stopping all seven Coyotes' shots of the period.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
