Royals begin set with Tigers

Baseball Betting Lines

09/22/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Kansas City Royals hope to move out of the basement in the AL Central this week, as they open a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

The Royals come into this series residing in last place in the division, two games back of the fourth-place Tigers. They have played well of late, though, but lost two of three this weekend to the Central-leading Chicago White Sox.

On Sunday KC dropped the rubber match to the White Sox, 3-0, at Kauffman Stadium. Alex Gordon doubled for the Royals, who lost for only the second time in their last 10 tries.

KC starter Brandon Duckworth (3-2) took the loss, tagged for five hits and three runs over six-plus innings while walking one and striking out three.

Getting the call for the Royals tonight will be right-hander Gil Meche, who has won two of his last three starts. Meche got the win on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners, surrendering a pair of runs and six hits in seven innings to run his record to 12-11, while lowering his earned run average to 4.08.

Meche has faced the Tigers 17 times over the course of his career, posting a 7-4 mark to go along with a 3.75 ERA.

Detroit will counter with righty Zach Miner, who is 8-4 with a 4.16 ERA. Miner did not get a decision on Tuesday in Texas, when he held the Rangers to a pair of runs and five hits in 7 1/3 innings of his team's 5-4 loss.

Miner beat the Royals the last time he faced them and is 3-2 lifetime against them with a 3.82 ERA in 11 games, five of which have been starts.

Detroit enters this matchup on the heels of getting swept in Cleveland this past weekend, culminating with Sunday's 10-5 drubbing at Progressive Field. Edgar Renteria had three hits, including a homer, for the Tigers, who have lost nine of their last 10.

Dontrelle Willis (0-2) was blistered for five hits and six runs, while walking six batters over 2 1/3 innings.

Detroit played the series in Cleveland without manager Jim Leyland, who served a three-game suspension. He will be back with the team tonight.

Kansas City has won eight of its 15 matchups with the Tigers this season, but Detroit has won seven of the last nine encounters.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.

Eastern Conference Playoff Betting Trends

We all know by now that the “public” loves to put their money on the FAVORITES and the OVERS.  Just by taking a quick glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends” it appears as is this tendency will continue as far as the Eastern Conference games are concerned.  For the inaugural games of the first round, 69% of the early money is on Toronto -4.5; 59% of bettors prefer Chicago -4.5; 84% are backing Detroit -9; and 56% think Cleveland -11.5 is the way to go.  As far as TOTALS are concerned, the only UNDER the “public” is backing is the Cleveland/ Washington game in which 83% are pounding the UNDER (190).  Remember, there is no better way to predict a possible line change than by monitoring MySportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends”.   By determining who the “public” is backing, you can get the most ideal line for your bet.  For example, if you are siding with the public you better place your bet before the line moves in the wrong direction.  On the other side of the coin, if you prefer the team that the “public” is betting against; you might be able to get and extra ½ or even more by placing your bet a bit later.  Under the “Betting Trends” section, Sportsbook.com also provides plenty of statistical data and trends in order for the bettor to make the most informed pick.  Below are some extremely important trends for the first round opponents of the Eastern Conference match-ups, more can be found at MySportsbook.com
