11/12/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Detroit Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper has reportedly been named the starter for Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
The Detroit Free Press cited Lions head coach Rod Marinelli as stating that Culpepper, who officially signed with Detroit on November 4, will start over Drew Stanton, although Stanton could also see time under center.
Culpepper started last Sunday's 38-14 loss to the Jaguars but was pulled late in the third quarter after going just 5-for-10 with 104 yards and an interception. Stanton replaced Culpepper and, in his NFL debut, went 6-for-8 with 94 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions have struggled at the quarterback position this season, as Dan Orlovsky took over for injured starter Jon Kitna, who was lost for the season with a back injury.
However, Orlovsky sprained his thumb on November 2 in a 27-23 loss to the Bears and was inactive for the Jacksonville game. Orlovsky has five touchdown passes and four interceptions in seven appearances and has lost his first four career starts.
