11/13/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Red Wings will try to rebound from a tough loss when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning for this evening's test at St. Pete Times Forum.
The Red Wings went into Tuesday's much-hyped game against visiting Pittsburgh on a two-game winning streak and was well on its way to another victory when the Penguins went on a furious third-period comeback. It was the first meeting between the clubs since Detroit clinched last year's Stanley Cup with a Game 6 win in Pittsburgh.
Jordan Staal used a hat trick to ignite the Pittsburgh rally in the third period and then set up Ruslan Fedotenko's goal 3:49 into overtime, as the Penguins overcame a three-goal deficit and captured the dramatic 7-6 victory over the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
The Penguins trailed 5-2 in the third period, but Staal scored three goals in the stanza, including the game-tying tally with 23 seconds remaining.
Jiri Hudler notched a goal and two assists, while Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg were among the goal scorers for Detroit.
Chris Osgood was solid through two periods, but allowed four goals on 16 shots in the third and ended with 27 total saves for Detroit, which still earned at least one point for the 12th time in 14 games this season.
Beginning with tonight's test, the Red Wings are playing two straight and five of their next six games on the road. Detroit has been excellent as the visiting club so far this year, posting a 6-1-1 mark away from the Motor City.
The Lightning lost for the fourth time in five games on Wednesday as they were blanked in a road test at Florida. Gregory Campbell tallied twice and Craig Anderson turned aside 24 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Panthers silenced Tampa Bay, 4-0.
Mike Smith made 27 saves in defeat for the Lightning, who have also lost two straight.
The Lightning are 2-2-3 as the host team this season and will play five of their next six games on home ice.
Detroit is 3-0 with a tie in the last four meetings against the Lightning and has won two of three in Tampa.
