Marlins head to Cincinnati for key makeup test

Baseball Betting Lines

09/22/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Florida Marlins hope to have Hanley Ramirez back in the lineup today, when they will try to halt a seven-game losing streak in Cincinnati with a makeup game against the Reds at Great American Ball Park.

Ramirez has missed Florida's last four games due to a left shoulder strain suffered last Wednesday against Houston. However, the All-Star shortstop was able to take batting practice prior to Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies.

Ramirez is hitting.298 on the season with 32 home runs, 119 runs scored and 33 stolen bases.

The Marlins' setback to Philadelphia yesterday was their second straight following a franchise-record nine-game winning streak. Florida remained five games back of the Mets for the National League's Wild Card spot with seven to play, and end the season with a three-game set in New York.

John Baker had four hits and an RBI for Florida in Sunday's loss, while Josh Willingham added two hits and also drove in a run. Jorge Cantu, meanwhile, extended his hitting streak to 11 games and is hitting .370 (17-for-46) with six homers and 18 RBI on the burst.

Ricky Nolasco will try to win a fifth straight decision when he starts for the Marlins today. The right-hander is 15-7 with a 3.52 earned run average and won his second straight start on Wednesday, when he held the Astros to a pair of runs on six hits over seven innings of work.

Nine of Nolasco's 15 wins have come on the road this year, and the 25-year-old is 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in three games (2 starts) lifetime versus the Reds.

Cincinnati counters with Aaron Harang, who is starting to turn things around late during what has been a miserable 2008 campaign for the righty.

Though just 2-3 over his last six starts, Harang has posted a 1.93 ERA in that span and defeated the Cardinals on Wednesday with a six-hit shutout, his first of the season and fifth of his career.

Harang, a 16-game winner in each of the previous two seasons, is still just 5-16 with a 4.70 ERA in 28 games this year.

The 30-year-old is 2-2 lifetime versus the Marlins with a 6.98 ERA in seven starts. He is 1-1 with an 8.03 against them this year, with most of that damage coming in a June 8 start in Florida, where Harang gave up eight runs (7 earned) on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Cincinnati was going for a three-game sweep of Milwaukee on Sunday, but was defeated, 8-1. Danny Richar drove in the lone run for the Reds, who had won six of seven prior to the contest.

The Reds took the first three games of their rain-shortened home set with the Marlins in mid-May, and have won five of seven overall against the Fish this season. Today's matchup is a makeup of a May 15 tilt that was rained out.

Florida hasn't won in Cincinnati since April 18, 2006.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.
