Lisin nets a pair as Coyotes rally past Kings

12/03/2008 - Glendale, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Enver Lisin scored twice in the third period to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Shane Doan also scored for the Coyotes, who have won three of their last four games on the heels of a six-game winless skid (0-4-2). Mikael Tellqvist made 32 saves in the win.

Oscar Moller and Alex Frolov scored for the Kings, who have dropped two straight after a two-game win streak. Erik Ersberg allowed three goals on 25 shots in the losing effort.

The Coyotes trailed 2-1 at the start of the third period, but a pair of goals by Lisin put the hosts in the lead.

First, at the 4:06 mark , Lisin's third goal of the season tied the score. Keith Yandle held control inside the left circle and passed into the low slot for Lisin, who whiffed on the one-timer attempt but made enough contact with the puck that it slid -- slowly -- past a sliding Ersberg.

Lisin struck again just over four minutes later. Derek Morris corralled the puck behind his own net and sent a perfect lead pass through the neutral zone that found Lisin in stride. Lisin streaked across the blue line down the left- wing side and unloaded a blazing slap shot that made Ersberg's water bottle pop into the air for a 3-2 Phoenix lead at the 8:08 mark.

The Kings had several scoring chances down the stretch. With 4:05 to go in regulation, Moller's one-timer from the slot missed wide. Later, with about 1:20 on the clock, Michal Handzus attempted a stuffer at the right post, but Tellqvist's pad was quicker. Moments later, Kings blueliner Matt Greene fired a wrister from the right point with traffic in front, but the save was made.

Martin Hanzal's empty-net goal with 31 seconds remaining capped the scoring.

The Kings grabbed the lead near the five-minute mark of the first period with a fluke goal. Frolov fought for control of the puck along the rear boards directly behind the net. Frolov alertly fired the puck toward the crease area, and the disc deflected off the back of Tellqvist's right leg and into the net at 4:59.

Less than two minutes later, the hosts tied the contest while on the power play. With Dustin Brown in the box for hooking, Ed Jovanovski ripped a one- timer from the center point that Doan redirected past Ersberg from the slot.

At the 8:37 mark of the second stanza, the Kings moved ahead 2-1 on Moller's fifth goal. While on the power play, Kyle Quincey fired a shot from the left circle that never made it to the net. Instead, the puck deflected off the skate of Phoenix defenseman Zbynek Michalek and caromed directly to Moller, whose one-timer rebound from the slot flew into the back of the cage.

FOOTBALL TRASH TALK

NFL Football Trash Talk

Trash talk has a place in every competitive endeavor (except baseball; those stirrup-wearers are too busy chewing on their sunflower seeds and their “supplements” to worry about what their opponents are doing).

Fantasy sports is no exception. Any intelligent discussion of the subject would probably start with a thesis statement or a definition of terms. Thankfully, this won’t be an intelligent discussion.

Let me just say that I am happy to take a place in this space alongside my talented colleagues, even our commissioner. (You should see how she bleats like a demented paper boy about league fees on our fantasy site).

Trash talking, I would argue, is primarily about amusing your friends, their sheeplike demeanors and sloping foreheads notwithstanding. The best place I have found for football trash talking is at www.SportsAlarm.com.

Beyond the entertainment factor, though, I would recognize that the sophomoric ritual has one advantage, when properly applied. It magnifies your fantasy triumphs and mitigates your fantasy failures by transforming the eventual point total into an afterthought. Winning makes it seem like your opponent really is a “truss-owning, lapel-pin-wearing nitwit.” And in defeat, trash talk can be the air bag to break the fall from your hyperbolic heights. “The plug-necked yahoos on your team,” you can say, “will be sacking groceries by the end of the season.”

The best trash talk, in my view, is layered and nuanced. And it doesn’t focus only on your opponent’s team. It picks apart your opponent. The idea is to create a shock-and-awe-scale blizzard of nonsense, and the goal is to make your opponent drop his hands from his keyboard in exasperation.

What team does your opponent root for? Accuse a Giants fan of having a Joe Namath pillowcase. Where’s your opponent from? Give a look of concern no matter his reply, then say, “I’ll try to type slower for you next time.” Is your opponent into politics? Label everyone a tax-and-spend corporate shill.

Cap all that with a liberal application of irrelevance. For instance, don’t just conclude by saying your opponent is a “twerp who drafts like my grandmother.” Say that your opponent is a “sweater-wearing, eyebrow-plucking twerp who drafts his team about as well as Zsa Zsa Gabor gave acceptance speeches at the Oscars.” By the time your foe makes sense of that, his starting running back will have had puppies.

But what about you? Hmm? Recall a memorable slam? Have a tried-and-true technique? Know someone who seems impervious to insult? Take a moment and tells us about it. Put together some (fit-for-publication) thoughts. You won’t be too busy returning phone messages from your friends, I’m sure, to reply.

In addition to the trash talking, the Sports Alarm has a huge gallery of high resolution pictures of beautiful women and models in bikinis. The most popular models are: Lindsay Lohan, Carrie Underwood, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Paris Hilton.
