01/01/2007 - Ottawa, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Vyacheslav Kozlov scored two goals, including the game-winning tally 1:48 into overtime, to lift the Atlanta Thrashers past the Ottawa Senators, 3-2.
The play started harmless enough, as Marian Hossa dumped the puck out of Atlanta's zone. However, the puck skipped out to mid-ice where Kozlov outmuscled Ottawa defenseman Joe Corvo for the disc to create a breakaway.
From there, Kozlov skated in on Ray Emery before slipping the puck through the netminder's five-hole for the game-winner.
Ilya Kovalchuk also scored, while Hossa finished with three assists for the Thrashers, who have won six of their last seven games. Atlanta goaltender Kari Lehtonen ended with 33 saves.
Daniel Alfredsson and Tom Preissing each scored for the Senators, who saw their saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. Emery finished with 26 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Ottawa struck first 51 seconds into the second period as Dany Heatley found Alfredsson for his 11th goal of the season.
Atlanta answered exactly four minutes later while on the power play as Kovalchuk's one-timer from the left point beat Emery high.
The Thrashers then took a 2-1 lead with 8:42 left before the second intermission. Emery managed to make a save on Hossa's initial shot, but Kozlov was there to stuff home the rebound.
Atlanta stymied the Senators for most of the third period, but Shane Hnidy was whistled for holding with 5:26 left in the game and Ottawa was able to take advantage. Preissing fired a shot on net from near the blue line that deflected off an Atlanta player and past a screened Lehtonen.
